The Pier
A muck dive by the old Dauin pier, where sand and scattered rocks hide frogfish, flatworms, nudibranchs and several kinds of octopus.
This site lies near the old Dauin pier, where local people often jump into the sea. Its sandy bottom and scattered rocks make it a perfect spot for muck diving, and it lies inside a marine sanctuary.
The dive
The maximum depth is around 18 metres, so you get long, relaxed bottom times. The scattered rocks break up the sand and give the critters plenty of places to hide.
What you might see
- Frogfish, in good numbers
- Flatworms, colourful and often mistaken for nudibranchs
- Nudibranchs on the sand and rocks
- Several species of octopus hiding among the rocks
When to dive The Pier
Good all year, with water temperatures of about 25 to 29°C. Nudibranchs are at their most varied from January to March. See when to dive Dauin.
Who it suits
Shallow and calm, The Pier suits divers of most levels and is a good place to start muck diving.
Our tip
Look at the rocks, not only the sand. Octopus often sit in the gaps between them, with just their eyes showing.
